I have read all of K L Slater’s previous novels and they are brilliant, including this one, ‘Closer.
The one thing I find the most amazing is the author’s ability to leave the ending as she does. I am a sucker for a ‘different’ ending. This one is exceptional and I was smiling at what could happen next even after the end.
Emma and Shaun are married with a daughter, Maisie, and although they have decided their marriage is over they have come up with an arrangement to help all three of them, including their daughter, deal with the breakup. However, Shaun moves on quickly by having a relationship with Emma’s boss, Joanne Dent. Clearly this is difficult for all parties to deal with.
There are ghosts in the past for everyone concerned and these are continuously referred to as the storyline progresses. It isn’t until towards the end of the novel that the issues about the past become clear and even then there is doubt about who is right and who is wrong.
A brilliant read and highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for the ARC in return for my honest review.
Love that ending.
