I have only read one of Mark Billingham’s previous novels and will now be out to fill in the gaps. Seriously enjoyable read and I found myself mesmerised with some of the nasty, wicked twists. I guess it needed a warped mind to enjoy it as well as write it.
DI Tom Thorne is a character I relate to with his comments, attitude and sometimes indecision in his personal life. He starts to investigate a suicide; outside his remit as a MIT officer but the woman, Pip, was defrauded out of a substantial amount of money and couldn’t take the embarrassment.
Sarah, who does the school run everyday, bumps into the fraudster, whose name alters throughout, and there are fireworks. Then, the DNA of the man who was responsible for stealing Pip’s money turns up in a murder enquiry in Margate.
Cleverly plotted storyline leads the reader down several paths and there was certainly one part I would never have guessed.
Thanks to NetGalley, Little Brown Book Group UK and Mark Billingham for my ARC in return for my honest review.
Brilliant read, highly recommended.
