Another brilliant read from Cara Hunter in the DI Adam Fawley series. The characters continue to develop and move forward with precision and intelligence and the clever twist at the end makes me eager for the next in the series.
The opening event is, Faith, a young woman dishevelled and scared wandering around the outskirts of Oxford. She is picked up by a taxi driver who goes to the police, but when they turn up to question her she refuses to tell them what happened and does not want the incident investigated. Her family seem to close ranks.
It turns out that she was grabbed off the street, a plastic bag put over her head and assaulted but it could have been much worse as the attack stopped when a police siren was heard.
Then, another younger girl, Sasha, disappears and an old case starts to rear its head for DI Fawley and his heavily pregnant at wife, Alex. The twists and turns and carefully devised subplots make this an amazing story and I couldn’t put it down. Phew.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Penguin Books UK and Cara Hunter for my ARC in return for an honest review.
Brilliant read and highly recommended.
