⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
‘The Chalk Man’ is my first read of CJ Tudor and I am now wondering what took me so long to buy it and read it. Her other books are on my list now. I was gripped from the very first chapter. Compelling reading.
The narrative is split between 1986 and 2016 with Eddie as a young teenager in the earlier storyline and an adult Eddie in the latter.
In 1986, Eddie and his friends, Fat Gav, Metal Mickey, Hoppo and Nicky devise a code by drawing chalk men as symbols using different colours for each person. As a result of these drawings, sinister and unfortunate events unfold throughout the novel from the 1986 and 2016 storylines and they are interlinked with clever plotting,
I wouldn’t call it chilling but it had plot twists and subtle changes throughout which blended seamlessly into each other and the characters inter-relationships and their development was smart and absorbing.
Good read. Recommended.
